wax-resist dyed eggs, 2016 - ongoing

pysanky

Pysanky are real, hollow eggs dyed with a wax-resist method in a traditional Ukrainian style. The word pysanky is derived from the Ukrainian word pysaty, which means “to write.”

Harper teaches informational, hands-on workshops about the history and practice of making pysanky. Her lecture covers the art form's ancient roots, adaptation through Christianity, and perseverance during the Cold War. She has been teaching since 2016 at locations including the Carnegie-Stout Public Library, CSPS Hall, and the Eastern Iowa Arts Academy.
